The new year is right around the corner and what does that mean? Everyone is setting New Year’s resolutions. Looking to lose a few pounds? Want to live a healthier lifestyle? Or just want to enjoy life a bit more? Spa Shiki is a great place to start. With services that range from full-body treatments to fitness classes, we’ve got some tips and recommendations that will produce long-lasting results. Here’s to a healthier 2018!

Embrace Self Care

We often overlook our own needs to take care of others. Whether you are a busy mom or put in way to many hours at the office, Spa Shiki is the best place to unwind — especially after the holidays! While there are several massages offered on the service menu, Spa Shiki’s Classic Massage is the perfect one to put you in a state of total relaxation all while reaping the benefits of massage. This treatment uses multiple techniques in a specifically-designed sequence to sedate the nervous system and relax your muscles. If you book a treatment at Spa Shiki, make sure you take advantage of the many amenities offered. Plan to stay for a while to use the infrared sauna, steam room, co-ed whirlpool, enjoy a spa entrée and relax in the meditation lounge. Also, check out the boutique so you can take a piece of the spa home with you. Shop for everything from inspirational books to cute yoga attire, skincare items for men and women, Himalayan bath salts, essential oils and other products you will love.

Get Pampered

Spa Shiki has a variety of packages to choose from if you are looking to get pampered from head to toe. The Wellness Package is a popular choice that includes a Himalayan Salt Stone Massage, Vitamin C Facial, pedicure, Green Tea Body Wrap and a protein smoothie. These detoxifying services will rehydrate your body, reduce inflammation, improve skin tone and texture, and make you look and feel great! Because men need to be pampered too, the “Just for Him” package is made up of a deep pore-cleansing Gentleman’s Facial, Sports Pedicure (to relieve those tired and swollen feet and legs), and the Swedish Massage. Wanting to reunite or spend some extra time with a loved one? The Japanese Ritual for Two is held in the newly-remodeled private suite and starts off with a relaxing Himalayan salt foot soak followed by a Signature Swedish Massage. It ends with a Revitalizing Facial that will increase elasticity and improve skin tone and texture. What a perfect way to spend the day!

Ask for Help

As you age, your skin care needs change. So the products you use, including your makeup, need to change as well. Let estheticians assist you in making the right choices. They can freshen up your look and provide a make-up lesson using the La Bella Donna line of cosmetics, available exclusively at Spa Shiki. The mineral makeup is healthy for the skin and free of harmful chemicals.
They also can assist in selecting the right specialized facial to address your concerns or beauty
goals. An Anti-Gravity facial will help to maintain a youthful appearance, while the Microderm Facial focuses on reducing fine lines and wrinkles. From a deep cleansing facial to a clinical
treatment, you’ll get the best results thanks to the help of knowledgeable professionals.

Reverse Winter’s Negative Effects

Your skin is the largest organ of your body so you need to take care of it. A body treatment will leave it healthy, firm and youthful by cleansing, exfoliating and hydrating your skin. Many of the
products used during treatments at Spa Shiki contain lots of antioxidants to reduce
inflammation and assist in the detoxification process.
To increase blood to the skin and exfoliate the body, the Cellulite Reduction Treatment dramatically reduces cellulite with a combination of infrared and dry brushing using the trademarked Supracor mitt.
A wellness manicure or pedicure offers relief for those dry hands and feet thanks to winter’s harsh effects. No acetone or toxic products are used during the treatment. The chemical-free,
vegan polish is a great alternative to gel.

Stay Active

It can be difficult during the winter months to get out and exercise. Who wouldn’t rather stay
on the couch under the covers? But you won’t get fit sitting around. Spa Shiki offers a variety of group fitness classes, making it easy and convenient to burn off those extra calories we packed on over the holidays. Notice, I said we…?
Tai Chi classes are held Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. in Spa Shiki’s movement room. Using graceful,
slow movements Tai Chi will instill a sense of calmness and peace while providing a variety of health benefits. Those with arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, anxiety and other illness may find this class helpful but anyone looking to improve balance, posture and breathing, all while
reducing stress, should give it a try. Yoga classes are offered every Saturday at 9 a.m. The classes are for everyone, of any fitness
level. Yoga can transform your body by providing anxiety relief, improve your lung capacity,
increase flexibly, give you stronger bones and helps to maintain your weight.
Starting in January, Barre Boot Camp classes are being held at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for eight weeks. This class will work on tightening and toning every muscle group, and is lowimpact.
The classes cost $10, or for a limited time you can purchase a 10-class punch card for $80.
I often have people tell me they are intimidated to come to a class. Put those fears aside! If you want to bring a friend so you’ll feel more comfortable, grab someone. But the instructors that lead these classes focus on making sure everyone feels comfortable and welcome, and has a
good time.
To make sure you set aside time to attend, one thing that helps me hit the gym more often is to schedule a class like I would any other appointment. If I put it on my calendar I’m less likely to “overbook” and can arrange my day to make sure that I show up.

Choose Wisely

One of the most popular resolutions for many of us is to lose weight, but being healthy is not
just about shedding a few inches. It’s a lifestyle choice. The good news is being healthy doesn’t have to always be a struggle. There are a lot of simple ways you can live a happier, healthier lifestyle.
Start by making a few easy and mindful changes to your daily routine, like reducing the amount of chemicals you use in your home and on your body. Go to bed earlier. Start taking a multivitamin. Drink more water. Volunteer for an organization you care about. Prepare your
meals and lunches ahead of time. Declutter. Don’t deprive yourself of a few indulgences but add more fruits and vegetables into your diet.
If you make just a few good choices, they all add up to make a big difference!
